February is recognised across the UK as Heart Month, led by the British Heart Foundation. On 21st February, we are using this national campaign as an opportunity to focus on heart health and wellbeing within our care home.
Heart and circulatory diseases remain one of the most common health concerns in later life. Raising awareness in a supportive and accessible way helps residents feel informed, reassured and empowered. Throughout the day, we provide gentle education around maintaining a healthy heart, tailored to individual needs and abilities.
Residents are invited to take part in chair based exercise sessions that promote circulation, flexibility and mobility. These sessions are designed to be inclusive, allowing everyone to participate safely. Even light movement can support cardiovascular health, improve mood and maintain independence.
Nutrition also plays a key role in heart health. Our kitchen team prepares balanced meals with careful consideration given to salt levels, portion sizes and nutritional value. We use this day to talk about the importance of hydration, enjoying a varied diet and making small, manageable choices that support overall wellbeing.
In addition, our care team continues routine health monitoring, including blood pressure checks where appropriate, and works closely with local healthcare professionals to ensure residents receive personalised support. Open conversations allow residents to ask questions and share their experiences, helping to reduce anxiety around heart related conditions.
By recognising Heart Month, we align with a respected national charity campaign while reinforcing our ongoing commitment to proactive, compassionate care. Supporting heart health is not just about one day of awareness, it is part of our everyday dedication to promoting comfort, dignity and quality of life for every resident.
